The second highest peak in the Pyrenees is Posets (3375 metres), located in the Maladeta massif. This mountain is not as popular as nearby Aneto or Perdido, probably because tourists are not aware of it. The people who are aware of it are generally mountaineers who visit the place in the summer. The nearby village of Benasque is well equipped for tourists though: hotels, restaurants, stores, shops, camping, holiday cottages, health centres, etc. The diversity of the surrounding countryside is matched by a variety of hiking options. Isolated valley paths, challenging summit climbs, panoramic bridle paths, airy ledge belts and impressive canyon tours invite walkers to discover and enjoy a mountain terrain that has remained largely unscathed by mass tourism and its consequences. The Maladeta massif comprises of some of the most important and highest peaks in the Pyrenees, including Mount Aneto the highest mountain in the Pyrenees. |
