Thought to be one of the largest gallo-roman villas in France, it was built around the middle of the 1st century AD with further work completed in the 3rd and 4th centuries. This magnificent villa would have stretched to 200 rooms decorated with opulent marble and mosaics. It would also have been a very comfortable residence with an under floor heating system and running water. Archaeologists have worked hard at this site and today the remains of the vestibule, a temple, living quarters and several courtyards can be seen. |
