Near the smart town of Bagnères de Bigorre on the road leading out along the Campan Valley you will find the Grotte de Médous. It was discovered in 1948 and features an impressive array of rock forms dating back over a million years. Walking around the caves you will see numerous creations of stalactites and stalagmites conjuring up weird and wonderful images including ‘The Grand Organ’, ‘The Virgin and Child’ and ‘The Matterhorn’. The cave is split into two galleries known as the galerie Sèche and the larger galerie des Merveilles. To complete the circuit the hour long visit finishes with a spectacular boat ride on the underground Adour River. |
